A Whirlwind of Mathematical Adventures!

Interning at AMI

My internship at AMI has been an incredible learning experience.  It's given me the chance to apply my skills and passion for Mathematics in a meaningful way.  I'm constantly surrounded by inspiring people who are dedicated to promoting mathematical excellence in Africa and all over the world. I'm learning so much, not just about mathematics itself, but also about project management, collaboration, and the importance of community outreach. This has stretched my thinking and ignited a passion for collaborative problem-solving.

My First International Experience 

I'm incredibly proud to share that I recently had my first international work duty through AMI! I traveled to Tanzania for the 8th Mathematics Bootcamp at Nelson Mandela  Institute.This was an amazing experience, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of mathematics beyond my own borders.  It was a privilege to interact with mathematicians and educators from different backgrounds and learn from their perspectives.

I had the opportunity to lead math sessions at the Tanzania maths camp, an experience that truly threw me into the deep end of facilitation.  These weren't typical math classes; for example we tackled some puzzles about handshakes which are intriguing problems that challenge you to think logically and strategically about connections. I remember one session vividly. The room buzzed with a mix of confusion and excitement as participants grappled with a particularly complex scenario involving a large group of people shaking hands.  Guiding them through the process, witnessing the "aha!" moments as they finally cracked the code, was incredibly rewarding.  It wasn't just about finding the right answer; it was about fostering a collaborative spirit and encouraging everyone to contribute their perspectives.  Of course, there were challenges.  Keeping everyone engaged and ensuring that no one felt left behind required a delicate balance of explanation and encouragement. But overcoming those hurdles taught me valuable lessons about communication and adaptability.
I'm looking forward to the math camp and all the other exciting projects that are coming up. I'm eager to continue learning and growing as an Educator and as a member of the AMI community.  I'll be sure to share updates on the Maths camp and my other experiences here, so stay tuned!
